happy 4th of July!

Have a safe and wonderful day!

Sad day

A few days ago, the beautiful maple tree outside our patio was cut down. I've been enjoying watching this tree change colors for many many seasons. When I'm stressed out, I used to go outside because its dancing leaves gave me the much needed comfort and peace. Now, I can't even step outside without seeing our half naked beer bellied neighbor who loves to water the dying plants in his patio.

This tree was also a favorite hang-out place to many different types and colors of birds. Birds who loved to sing early in the morning when I eat breakfast. Birds that used to entertain my cats when I'm too busy to play. Now, my cats are entertained by the people hanging out in their living rooms and bedrooms. This is really not something I want to see when I sit outside with my coffee or tea.

Here are the murderers in action. Notice the one above have a smile on his face? Jerk. When these butchers came, I was hoping they were only cutting some of the old branches. But they kept cutting, and cutting, and cutting, until there was nothing left but a tree stump. I wish I could've stopped them.

I was angry and mad. But this time, I didn't have a tree to comfort me = (

a new favorite

Meet my new love, Mr. Chinese broccoli. It's sweeter than your regular broccoli, more leafy, and has smaller florets. It's usually served steamed or stir-fried in oyster sauce. I've read that It can be used in raw salad but I haven't tried it. I love mine sauteed in toasted sesame oil with lots of green onions, shiitake mushroom, and shrimp. I don't think it's available at local grocery stores. You might have to find an Asian supermarket to buy some. If you ever come across any, I recommend that you try some.
